What to Do

If you have ever asked yourself:  “What am I going to do in the Smokies?” The better question is “What can I not do in the Smokies?!?”

The Smokies are a vacationer’s paradise.  Activities ranging from live theater to museums and everything in between, there are countless things to do.  Spend the day or the week outside, roaming the hills and mountainsides of the GSMNP.  Spend your evening taking in a show or visiting a museum.  Pay a visit to a local theme park or window shop till your heart’s content.

DollywoodAttractions – Roadside attractions, go kart tracks, miniature golf and much more cover the landscape of the Smokies.  Families that come to the Smoky Mountains for a vacation have plenty of opportunities to visit great family attractions and get closer together while they play in the shadows of some of the most beautiful mountains in the country.

  • Roadside Attractions – We aren’t talking the World’s Largest Ball of Twine but we are talking about roadside attractions that have been around for decades.  Visit underground caverns, dairy farms, gem mining and much, much more.
  • Theme Parks – You might be surprised to know that the Smokies are home to several theme parks.  Whether you want big thrill rides available at Dollywood or something a little different in the form of Tweetsie Railroad, there is a theme park to suit your needs in the Smoky Mountains.
  • Family Friendly Attractions

Outdoor Activities – Swimming to fishing, boating to biking, there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy while you are in the Smoky Mountain area.  Whether you are looking to spend some time in the water at areas like Douglas or Fontana Lake or if you simply want to go horseback riding, the Smokies have plenty of options for spending time outside.

Live Theater – Sevier County might be home to the live theater movement of the Smokies but the Live Theater has been around for decades as an entertainment in the area.  With variety shows, comedy shows and celebrity stars coming to the Smokies and the guests that are here on vacation, there is probably a show that you and your family will love.

Biltmore EstateMuseums – The Smokies are full of history and the people in the area have done a great job of collecting that history and putting it on display.  Museums that tell the story of the people weave a tapestry that explains the culture of the Smokies from the early natives to this area to the European settlers that arrived here years later.  Included with these museums are wonderful art museums and themed museums that tell an entirely different story.

Sports – Collegiate sports or semi-pro? The Smokies has the cure for your sports bug.  The Asheville Tourist and Tennessee Smokies are only two of the teams you can take in while you are in the Smoky Mountains.

Shopping – Shopping paradise in the Smokies can be found whether you are looking for a flea market, an outlet mall or a high end boutique.  From Sevierville to Cashiers, there are plenty of shopping options aruond every corner.

Golf – The golfing scene in the Smokies is out of this world.  The courses are sculpted into the side of the hillsides and mountain valleys.  Signature holes that involve the terrain and scenery that might take your mind off of that perfect game, make you wish you could spend your whole vacation on the golf course.
