Your online resource for the Smoky Mountains
Dollywood isn’t the only iconic theme park near the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains! Nestled in the picturesque mountain town of Blowing Rock, NC, Tweetsie Railroad is one of the most unique and legendary Wild West family attractions in the nation. Operating since 1957, Tweetsie Railroad offers a timeless step back in time centered around authentic, historic narrow-gauge steam locomotives.
The centerpiece of the park is the famous 3-mile scenic train ride aboard one of Tweetsie’s legendary steam locomotives:
Built in 1917, this is the original "Tweetsie" engine and the last surviving narrow-gauge locomotive of the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC).
"The Yukon Queen," built in 1943 for service on Alaska's White Pass & Yukon Route.
Show Highlight: As the train winds through the surrounding mountains and canyons, passengers are treated to an action-packed, live outdoor Wild West show complete with train robbers, cowboys, and classic heroics.
Tweetsie Railroad hosts popular special events throughout the season that draw visitors from across the Southeast:
A spring favorite where kids can take a ride pulled by Thomas the Tank Engine™.
On autumn weekend nights, the park transforms into a spooky Halloween experience featuring scary train rides, haunted houses, and trick-or-treating.
During the winter holiday season, the park glows with millions of holiday lights, festive train rides, Santa’s Gingerbread House, and live Christmas shows.
Because Tweetsie Railroad operates seasonally, park hours and open days vary throughout the spring, summer, fall, and winter holiday seasons. Be sure to check ticket availability and schedule details before traveling.
