Standing at an elevation of 6,292 feet, Waterrock Knob is the highest peak along the Plott Balsam mountain range and the second-highest peak accessible along the Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 451.2). The large parking overlook offers sweeping vistas to the east and west, allowing non-hikers to enjoy grand mountain scenery right from their vehicles or picnic spots.

The paved path begins at the end of the parking lot and quickly transitions into a steep, rugged climb with stone and timber steps. The summit features a wooden overlook platform with views stretching into Tennessee and South Carolina on clear days.
